polishSWATCHES: Part 1- My favorite goldtone polishes on brown skin

This is part one of a series of posts highlighting a few of my favorite gold tone polishes that I feel really flatter those with brown/dark skin. It can really be hit or miss with most gold tone polishes when it comes to finding the right one for us brown beauties. Most often times we shy away from golds and browns assuming that most are colors that just won't look well against our skin.

I can honestly say however that every color looks great against our skin we just have to be able to pick the right shades. I don't have a magic formula or even really sound rules that I follow, but through trial and error I've learned how to eye what will look good on me. Golds with a warm to medium tone shade are generally what tend to look best.

The first polish shown here is China Glaze's 2030. In my personal opinion it's not one of the easiest colors to work with, but it is a really nice shade that compliments brown skin quite nicely. 2030 for some reason photographed to look like it was really similar to the Sally Hansen polish below, but in all actuality the two colors look nothing alike. 2030 is a medium to warm toned chrome polish that happens to start setting fairly quickly. It dries smooth to a dull mirror like finish and looks like molten gold on the nails. You need to apply one coat of this polish and let it dry before applying your next. Doing this will help you work out any imperfections and correct any visible brushstrokes.

This Sally Hansen Complete Salon nail color in Guilty Pleasure just may be my top pick out of this bunch. This formula is so smooth and easy to work with that it makes application quick, easy, and headache free. A lot of people complain about the brush with this particular polish, but I actually really like this brush. My nail bed is wide so it offers great coverage and it's not as big as the one in the InstaDri's. With the formula being so smooth the brush really isn't a problem and the polish held up to my wear test. This picture is a true representation of Guilty Pleasure, which to me looks like a nice smooth gold foil. Two to three coats are all you need with this polish and it gives you plenty of time to work out brush strokes before drying. Drying time is good, but it can be iffy with Seche Vite, especially if you apply it really thin.

Last but not least in this post we have Bronze Beauty from Cover Girl's Boundless Color line. This is such a gorgeous polish and makeup wise reminds me of the new Orly Foil FX polishes. It has that mixture of a gold shade with finely milled silver particles, but this one has bronze ones as well. The color is just beautiful on brown skin! It combines those micro glitters perfectly to create this wonderful iced latte shade with this awesome metallic shimmer throughout. Perfect in two to three coats with a great drying time, I've been nothing but pleased with this polish. It's actually a polish on the cooler side of the color spectrum when it comes to gold, but I think it works well because the yellow undertone is well balanced with the silver and bronze particles.

If you follow my tweets on Twitter then you know that last week I found several dupes or near dupes in my collection that I didn't know that I had. I actually have more than I knew about and I plan to try and share the ones I haven't already shared with all of you this week.

The two colors I've pictured here today are actually colors that were not even included in my list of near dupes because I apparently looked over them when making out my list. Due to the fact we're attracted to certain colors, I guess it's almost inevitable that we'll end up with duplicates in our collections at some point in time.

These two are not necessarily dead ringers for one another however, if your lemming China Glaze Strawberry Fields, Milani Pink Out Loud just may scratch the itch for you... at least a little anyway, lol.

I am in love with China Glaze Peachy Keen and I'm definitely enjoying this pop of color, but something happened during polish application that left my manicure with tons of tiny little bubbles. I can't remember, but I think I may have shaken the polish and not allowed it to sit for a minute. Nevertheless the color is fab and is an excellent contrast against my skin. Since the color to me is somewhat playful I decided to add a playful design..

My 11 yr old daughter is absolutely in love with this color and is actually the reason I'm wearing it today. I arranged for my hubby's friends to come over and cheer him up while me and my girls snuck away for a little "girl time."

While I was scanning my collection for a polish to wear today my daughter with big wide eyes picked this one. Then haggled me for about 30 minutes as to why I should let her have it instead, lol.

The reasons she gave as to why she should be the new owner ranged from I don't wear it enough, to her favorite color is purple, to I already have too many polishes in my collection.

Since it's really hard for me to part ways with any of my polishes... I just figured it would be easier for me to get her own bottle insead. :) Smart mommy!

This is the story of China Glaze In the Limelight and the bottle that was...

So, many of you may know via Twitter that I spent the wee hours of my morning in the ER with my hubby this morning. He woke up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom, couldn't see, tripped over the shoes I fussed at him about putting away, and ended up with a broken arm and a very irritated bulging disk in his back.

Needless to say my day needed a little brightening up so my new bottle of China Glaze In the Limelight was suppose to do the trick. And actually the notion was working perfectly fine until my 2 year old got the same idea. As I was putting away my supplies and cleaning up my area my little princess swiped my bottle of polish.

Me knowing she was up to something by the quick pace of her steps jumped up to quickly follow behind her. In an effort by her to try and save herself and get rid of any incriminating evidence, she ran into my bathroom and hurled the polish... into my spa tub! SPLAT!

I'm thankful that I was able to snap a few photos before the incident, but needless to say this bottle of polish's lifespan in my collection is done! And after approximately 1 hour, a thousand cotton balls, and an entire bottle of polish remover later... I don't ever want to see this shade again!

Just kidding! :)

Anyway, I hope your Friday is going a little better than mine... anything planned out for your weekend?
